The Boro fall short to an impressive Salford City development side at the Neuven Stadium.

Salford City cruised to a 5-2 victory against Radcliffe in the clubs second behind closed doors friendly.

Goals from a trialist and Akpa-Akpro were cancelled out by two braces from Dan Hawkins and Mo Touray, Liam Loughlan added another late on in the second half. The Boro had eight trialists throughout the starting lineup and subs who were no doubt looking to impress Lee Fowler and his staff.

Salford started off on the front foot in the first half, Dan Hawkins did well to get a cross into the box from the right but his cross was brilliantly collected by the Radcliffe trialist goalkeeper. The Ammies started to really press for the opener going on 17 minutes, their hard work was then rewarded with Dan Hawkins sliding the ball into the bottom right corner, no chance for the trialist goalkeeper. Having the lead didn't stop them from continuing the attacks with Salford scoring two goals in two minutes on the half hour mark, some good skill from Mo Touray gave him a chance to shoot inside the box which was well taken, Dan Hawkins grabbed his brace two minutes later. The Boro snatched a goal on 40 minutes against the run of play, Radcliffe´s trialist number nine making the most of a one on one chance, slotting it into the bottom right corner. Just two minutes later, Salford took back their three goal lead through Mo Touray, a defensive error handed it on a plate for him to get his second goal of the game, 4-1 to Salford going into half time.

Lee Fowler brought on six subs at half time to try and claw back the deficit, the second half started very end to end with a few great chances for both teams to get another goal inside the first twenty minutes, both of Radcliffe´s came from Daz McKnight with two shots on the edge of the box with both not finding the back of the away sides net. Salford´s chance came from Mo Touray who was played through for a one on one but the trialist goalkeeper came out brilliantly to collect the ball and deny Touray his hat-trick. Four minutes later, Radcliffe sub Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro scored a fine header from an exquisite ball crossed in by a trialist to give the Boro some hope going into the final twenty minutes of the game.

Despite Radcliffe pushing for a third, it was Salford who got the seventh goal of the match, Liam Loughlan restoring their three goal lead with ten minutes left on the clock. Both sides looked for the eighth goal of the match in the closing stages but the match finished 5-2, a poor result for the Boro but most importantly some minutes in the tank.
