Radcliffe Defender Callum Grogan says the momentum is with the Boro ahead of the top-two face off against Atherton Collieries on Saturday.

Jon Macken’s side can go a point behind The Colls with a win, as Michael Clegg’s outfit extended the gap to four points with a 2-0 win over Market Drayton Town on Tuesday.

Grogan knows the fixture will be of similar importance, and said the fire in the belly is with the Neuven-outfit.

“I’m expecting the game to be similar to Runcorn (Linnets). It’s going to be a tough, tough game. I don’t think they had a game on Saturday,” said the 2017/18 Player of the Season.

“I don’t know if a few of their lads would have came down to watch us – so they will be very up for it. They will have seen our result at the weekend and seen that the results in the past few games have given us the momentum, so they’ll expect a tough game as well.”

The centre-back produced a match-winner as Boro defeated the Linnets 1-0, ensuring the pressure was pilled on the Colls before their game-in-hand, three days later.

Winning the game was a massive statement in the eyes of Grogan, and he was happy his side didn’t conceded after a tough grind in the second-half.

He added: “It was hard graft against Runcorn. That’s what I put it down to. We got the goal on a good time, just before half-time. Then second-half I thought we could have got a few more goals, but then again we didn’t concede.

“I think everyone as a unit was solid. Everyone knew what their job was - even the players that came on where excellent, so I was made up with the clean sheet.

“It’s massive for the promotion run-in. To beat Linnets, who are a great side – it was a similar type of game to how it was at their place. We managed to grab a goal, so I think it was a massive statement to have won.”
