September's Player Of The Month Speaks to Adam Harrison

We made a great start to the season, I think we can put that down to the togetherness not only of the squad but the club as a whole. Everyone sticks together and we owe it to them, to never to give up on the pitch
- Scott Metcalfe

Adam Harrison speaks to the September player of the month Scott Metcalfe on why club togetherness was key to Radcliffe start, his form and the club’s plan of action after a first win in seven games.

No matter how good your squad is in terms of quality, nothing will bring success - if the chemistry, the camaraderie and the loyalty of a side is non-existent.

In the eyes of Scott Metcalfe, the September player of the month, this is the mindset. This is how a squad wins silverware, and how a team can make the Boro faithful proud.

Jon Macken signed the winger from Ossett Albion in the summer to help boost his sides shot at silverware. He addressed his own form, and The Blues’ start, which saw seven wins from seven, and Metcalfe puts that down to ‘togetherness’ - but the Neuven outfit have since won just one in seven, and the midfielder is hoping that they can get back on track and move back up the table.

“Personally, I have enjoyed the start to the season, I feel that I have started well and so has this new look squad which is the most important thing.” Metcalfe said. “I believe that myself and the team have so much more to give going forward this campaign.”

“We made a great start to the season, I think we can put that down to the togetherness not only of the squad but the club as a whole. Everyone sticks together and we owe it to them, to never to give up on the pitch.”

The former Warrington Town winger believes that Jon Macken along with Frank Sinclair have assembled a great squad which have the potential.

“The feeling is great around the squad and the club. All of the players look forward to training and games even more. It is a brilliant feeling being around a squad like this.”
Metcalfe thinks that Radcliffe FC is nothing like any club he has played for before. Praising the team mentality around the club as a whole.

“I’ve played for a few clubs now, but here I can really feel the togetherness as a squad.”
“It doesn’t matter who scores the goals or gets the assists, whether we win lose or draw it’s as a team.”

He also praised the management team for instilling that into the squad.
“I think the team mentality has come straight from Jon, Frank and Steve, they have been drumming it into us since day one, team first.”

The experienced winger is looking to comeback stronger in October after some mixed results.

“Firstly, it’s a great feeling to be awarded Player of the Month by the club. It wasn’t the best of months considering the start we have made but what is most important with a couple of defeats and a couple of draws is to come back stronger and that’s what we plan to do.”

Metcalfe and Radcliffe FC now face up against Cleethorpes Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
