The Boro are denied three points as Ashton snatch a late draw.

Bobby Grant’s men couldn’t get the job done for the second successive game, a 1-0 lead wasn’t enough to hand us all three points, as we were left to rue our chances at the full time whistle when Ashton struck late on to grab a point on their travels.

We made three changes to the team that drew away at Belper on Tuesday night, Jem Karacan, David Fitzpatrick and new signing Djavan Pedro all came into the starting XI, replacing Luca Navarro, Joe Piggott and Courtney Meppen-Walters.

There was a debut for Djavan Pedro, who arrived on loan from Salford after playing against us on a number of occasions for Marine over the past few months.

He began the game lively by turning his man and driving towards goal before shooting inside the box, his effort was well blocked as it headed goalwards.

Moments later, Jem Karacan couldn’t convert a gilt-edged chance from just outside the six-yard area, Gareth Evans’ in-swinging cross dropped to the unmarked midfielder who couldn’t nod it on target when the goal was gaping.

Radcliffe had the majority of the ball but Ashton still managed to press in the final third on a number of occasions.

Midway through the first half, Callum Saunders got the better of Jack Evans in the air to open up space for a run at goal, he began to dribble towards goal but before he could shoot he was denied by a superb last ditch challenge by Olly Thornley to evade the away side.

The centre backs impressive first half performance was made even better at the beginning of the second 45 minutes, as he gave Radcliffe the lead by dispatching his second goal of the campaign.

Nicky Adams’ free kick into the back post was nodded back across goal by Jack Evans, into his defensive parter who only had to knock it into an empty net.

Two minutes later, our advantage should’ve been doubled through Gareth Evans. Jake Thompson raced through the centre of the pitch and played the former Portsmouth man in on goal with an abundance of time and space, he could only drag his final shot wide with his right foot.

Ashton began to up the ante as the minutes ticked on in the second half, efforts from Osei, Roxburgh and Coates were all wide of the target with Radcliffe staying alert to prevent conceding for the time being.

After 87 minutes, David Fitzpatrick’s clearance was gathered by Bobby Grant who began surging forward to begin a counter attack, he eventually found Jem Karacan and he unleashed from range, his shot was struck slightly wide of the right post.

The Boro looked to be adding three points to the board which would’ve seen us climb to 5th in the table as we entered stoppage time, but the visitors converted a 90th minute equaliser to break Radcliffe hearts for the second time this week.

Ben Hardcastle’s through ball split the home side’s backline and found Darius Osei with an inside run, he simply guided it into the far corner with his right foot to snatch a point with only minutes to go until full time.

We visit the Skuna Stadium on Tuesday night as we look to get back to winning ways against Atherton Collieries, come and show your support and get the lads over the line against a fellow Greater Manchester side.
