A new midfielder joins the Radcliffe ranks.

Radcliffe FC are pleased to confirm that Matt Sargent has agreed to join the club at the expiry of his contract, following his release from League Two’s Salford City.

21-year-old Sargent goes against the recent trend of new signings, as he links up with Bernard and Jonno for the very first time, despite playing for two of their former managerial clubs. The Welshman also counts Wrexham, Chester and Buxton amongst his former teams, having endured six loan spells across the North from his parent outfit Salford between 2020 and 2022.

The latest being a two-month spell at fellow NPL Premier Division side Warrington Rylands, where he, alongside another new addition in Scott Duxbury with a 36% equal vote, won their March Player of the Month award following two goals and a man of the match performance against Radcliffe in Rylands’ 3-0 victory at the Neuven Stadium.

Capped at U16’s and U17’s level for Wales, the box-to-box midfielder brings bags of talent to the squad and we are delighted to have him on board!

Speaking to the media in his first interview at the club, Matt explained his ambitions moving forward and why he signed for the club.

Sargent, said: “Speaking to the two gaffers and hearing their ambition for the club was a big drawing point that made me want to sign, they’ve signed a lot of good players who can hopefully benefit me and help me flourish.

I want to start the season how I ended the last one with Warrington Rylands which I felt was positive. The loan spells I’ve had should stand me in good stead because I’ve played a lot of mens football for my age. Coming to Radcliffe now, I’m looking to showcase my ability and help the club go up the league.”

Welcome to the Neuven Stadium, Matt!
