Adam Harrison caught up with March Player of the Month Ollie Martin about his time at the Boro and smashing targets.

Martin joined from Mossley in the summer and his game has gone from strength to strength.

The man between the sticks has kept 19 clean sheets this season but he doesn’t take all the credit, he puts it down to the wall in front of him.

“19 clean sheets is a good return at any level. At the start of the season the GK union set a minimum of 10 clean sheets and build from there.

“If we hit 20, then that would be a great reflection on us as a defensive unit.”

March was a fantastic month for the club but particularly Martin. With three clean sheets in four games against both Atherton and Runcorn Linnets, Martin has staked a claim to be Boro’s Player of the Season.

“I am very happy with 3 in 4 clean sheets, but the only annoyance is at the Droylsden goal at the start of the month, practically the last kick of the game. If that didn’t go in, it would have been my first goalless month of my career.

“It felt great to have good games against the sides from the then top 3. As a team, we were most looking forward to them games and the performances showed that.

“A lot of hard work is done on the training pitch, so to see it work out on a game day is class.”

The Boro currently sit second four points off top spot but Martin isn’t surprised to still be fighting at this late stage of the season.

“If you look at our very first interview when I signed in the summer, the aim was to be up there at the top fighting for promotion.

“We’ve maintained that throughout the season and will hopefully get the rewards everyone at the club has worked hard for.”

As the Boro head into the final three games of the season, still fighting. The former Mossley man’s eyes are firmly focused on the prize.

“As we’ve said in every interview or question, the next game is the biggest one of the season. Especially at this stage of the season too, when the stakes are higher than ever.

“Form is an important factor to have, and we will look to have a solid end to the season for sure.”

Since joining in the summer Martin has been a huge part of the Boro’s success and his has loved every minute of it.

“On a personal note, I have really loved my first season at the Boro. Being made very welcome by all at the club, and the feeling of being in such a close-knit group of players…you can’t beat it!”

The icing on the cake for Martin was winning Player of the Month but he didn’t take all of the credit despite a brilliant month.

“It feels great to be named Player of the Month personally, however a lot of the effort has been from the lads in front of me. They have been superb.”
