Radcliffe followed up Wednesdays dominating result against Avro with a comprehensive win over a team made up of mainly youngsters from visitors Tranmere. Boro will look to continue their 100% record when they take on Irlam this following Wednesday.

Stand in manager for the day, Frank Sinclair, used a mixture of experienced players, trialists and youth in an experimental formation with 3 at the back. The away team almost took an early lead, when some sloppy play at the back was nearly capitalised on by Bailey Thompson, but Ollie Martin stood strong and managed to make a good save to deflect the ball away from danger.

The early chance seemed to wake the home team up. Matthew Crothers sent a cross in from deep which a trialist met, the away keeper Bayliegh Passant managed to keep out and Rovers scrambled away. The away teams goalkeeper then pulled off a magnificent save from Scott Metcalfes dipping volley. The ball sat up perfectly for Metcalfe to hit on the volley from all of 30 yards out, but the keeper managed to dive fully stretched out to his left to prevent a goal.

The Boro looked to really turn the screw on the opposition with a series of dangerous corners from Metcalfe. His first corner was met by Trialist, who saw his header fly just wide. A second corner was then whipped in by Metcalfe and this time the home team found the breakthrough with Tranmere defender Harrison Musuamba putting through his own net.

The home team continued to dominate the match, with chances coming thick and fast. First Rick Smith met Metcalfes dangerous corner but his header went well over, then a long ball over the top from Martin found Elliott Rokka, who broke the offside trap, Rokka then squared across to Trialist who just couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

The second goal finally came just before half time and it was worth the wait. A delightful ball over the top from Metcalfe caught the away teams defenders napping. The ball found its way to Matthew Wolfenden who guided the ball past the despairing Rovers keeper. A first goal in a Radcliffe for Wolfenden who will no doubt be delighted.

The second half brought a raft of changes from both managers, both keen to have a look at what their benches had to offer. Wolfenden almost got on the end of another superb Metcalfe ball into the box however he saw his effort saved. Radcliffe then had another chance through Leon Wright after good work from a trialist, however he saw his shot go wide.

The two first half goals were enough to guide the home team to victory and on another day it could well have been more. Frank Sinclair spoke after the match about how impressed he was with a number of the trialists who have been brought in. He felt the level of player currently on trial really reflected the teams ambitions for the coming year, with the team really looking to push on following last seasons promotion to the BetVictor Northern Premier Division.
