Boro stage comeback to claim first win in five

Summary:

RADCLIFFE came from a goal down to win 2-1 away against Tadcaster Albion at the i2i Stadium.

The home side opened the scoring through Corey Roper, as the Boro responded with Ben Jago, which sparked a second half comeback by Louis Myers.

Radcliffe saw out the last 10 minutes with last ditch defending to claim a first win in five games, whilst the Brewers stay in ninth.

Report:

On a clear-cut sunny day, it was the home side who had the first clear-cut opportunity on four minutes. Billy Whitehouse’s effort blazed over from eight-yards.

Tadcaster’s early dominance resulted with Roper scoring his first goal of the season on 12 minutes, with a low left-foot drive from the edge of the box

The first chance of the game for Boro came to Liam Wood, who could only hit a half-volley wide from 18-yards.

Jon Macken’s pep talk during a break in play payed dividends on 32 minutes, as a looping corner was guided back towards Jago, who looped a header over Tom Young to level the scoring.

Then, the comeback was complete five minutes into the second half. Louis Myers could have been flagged for offside, but he carried on to sail a header over Young to make it 2-1.

The away side almost added a third two minutes later, a cross met Wood but his acrobatic effort was saved from heading into the top corner.

61 minutes in, confusion struck as the referee waved play on for a foul on Myers, but the linesman flagged for a free-kick – which looked to be inside the penalty area.

Boro were pegged back in their own half for the remainder of the game, including heroic last ditch deflections from Ricky Smith.

Macken’s outfit now move up to 19th, whilst it’s one win in eight games for Michael Morton’s side.
