The Boro fail to shake Mossley curse as they fall in a seven goal thriller

By Patrick Gottlieb

The Boro opened through Lewis Lacy, but the visitors were able to answer back as Max Leonard bagged twice and Lacy turned the ball into his own net.

Macken’s men fought their way back to 3-3 as Ben Wharton and Tunde Owolabi both scored, but it wasn’t to be, as striker Michael Fish sealed the win for the visitors.

Radcliffe came into this once after only their second away loss this season to Leek Town, as the visitors are the team in form. It was the home side that found the break through early, as Lewis Lacy was unmarked and headed home from a Elliot Rokka corner.

Lewis Lacy Puts Boro ahead

The Boro seemed to be in control, but right on half-time, the ball found its way to Max Leonard, who made no mistake, planting the ball in the bottom corner.

It went from bad to worse after the break as Leonard found the back of the net again after rounding Ollie Martin, and only three minutes after that, Martin was left stranded as a free-kick deflected off Lewis Lacy and into an open net.

The game looked to be back on as Ben Wharton’s magnificent chip caught the keeper off guard. And the madness continued when Tunde Owolabi got his name on the score sheet after rounding the goalkeeper and levelled the match to make it 3-3 in a thrilling ten minute spell of football.

It simply wasn’t Radcliffe’s day, and it showed as Michael Fish found himself unmarked in the middle of the box to poke home what turned out to be the winner.

Rick Smith was sent off near the end of the match

Macken and his men now face Prescot Cables away next weekend after losing their second match on the bounce.

The Full Interview With Jon Macken is available on YouTube:

"Were a victim of our own success in the game, we was keeping the ball controlling the game. We just shut off allowed them back in the game. And to be fair to them they scored some good goals and they wanted it more than us today which is bitterly disappointing as a group as a team we've been fantastic in games this season and that's one thing I can say is the drive and desire to go and win games and see games out but they wanted it more today. And as I keep saying teams will keep wanting to knock us off our perch but you have to take it. Leaders and winners that's what they do put the performances in week in week out"
