Its a 2-1 loss at Market Drayton as the hosts win their first game in ten

By Adam Harrison

Radcliffe made it two games without a win after they were stung 2-1 by Market Drayton Town at Greenfields Sports Ground.
Town took the lead through Andy Hartlebury before Tunde Owolabi equalised in the second half. The killer blow came from James Jennings late in the game giving the home side all three points.

The Boro still sit third after their fifth defeat in the last seven games.

Jon Macken’s side started the brighter of the two in the first half. Matty Crothers had the games first chance after some good work from Ben Wharton and new signing Aaron Burns but his effort flew over.

Shortly after Desean Martin flashed a shot just wide of Ollie Martin’s goal for the home side.
Wharton worked the goalkeeper later in the half after a well worked free-kick on the edge of the Town box.

On the half hour mark Market Drayton started to pile on the pressure, striking the post in the best opportunity of the half.
Moments later the home side took the lead through centre back Andy Hartlebury. He met a great corner to head home past Martin in the Boro goal.

Macken’s message must have been ringing in the Boro players ears as they went out for the second period. Rick Smith headed over early in the half after a very dangerous free-kick.
Mid way through the second half the Boro grabbed an equaliser through substitute Tunde Owolabi. Wharton played in Owolabi who calmly slotted home to get Macken’s side back into the game.

The Boro very nearly took the lead through Tom Brown. His powerful effort from distance forced a save from the Town goalkeeper.
With six minutes remaining the home side caught the Boro out on the counter. James Jennings was there to slot home to give the home side all three points.

Radcliffe now sit nine points off top spot with the home side sitting 16th after adding another three points to the board.

Interviews with Jon Macken, Rick Smith & Scott Metcalfe will be available on our YouTube Channel.
