Radcliffe claim vital three points in promotion chase

By Adam Harrison

Radcliffe got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Glossop North End at Surrey Street.

Goals from Aaron Burns, Scott Metcalfe and Tunde Owolabi cancelled out Mason Duffy’s second half strike.

The Boro still sit third but have closed the gap to both Runcorn Linnets and Atherton Collieries with results going in their favour.

Jon Macken’s men started the brighter of the two sides. New signing Aaron Burns had the best of the opportunities in the opening stages but his strike was saved by Russell Saunders in the Glossop goal.

The Hillmen struck the post through Jack Tuohy on 28 minutes. Just moments later the away side took the lead.

Arron Burns broke clear of the Glossop defence to smartly give his side the lead.

Top goalscorer Tunde Owolabi then had a goal ruled out by the referee for a slight shove on the defender.

The score was very nearly level shortly after the break. Ollie Martin had to scramble to make a save after a slight mistake from his kick.

The away side had a huge chance to double their lead through Rick Smith. He squandered a huge chance in the six yard box after a well worked Boro free-kick.

The Boro did double their lead on the hour mark through Scott Metcalfe. He was in the right place at the right time to volley home from close range. That's the midfielders third in four appearances.

Just three minutes later it was three. Tunde Owolabi smashed home a finish after some good work in the 18 yard box.

The Boro looked to be in control of the game towards the end however Mason Duffy headed home to give the home side a life-line going into the final minutes.

Macken’s men managed to hold their lead and grab all three points, leaving them comfortably in third ahead of huge games against Runcorn Linnets and Atherton Collieries coming up in March. Its a seven point gap to the leaders with ten games of the season remaining, its all to play for at the top end for Radcliffe.
