Radcliffe manager Jon Macken has revealed the plan is to stay at the top of the Evo-Stik West ahead of the weekend’s clash against Kidsgrove Athletic.

The Boro host The Grove and could be as far as five points clear at the top, if results fall in their favour come the end of Saturday.

Macken’s side have hit imperious form, recording six straight wins and four clean sheets in a row, and the Blues’ gaffer knows the pressure is on sides around the “confident” Neuven-outfit to up their game.

“The plan is to stay at the top. It’s up to other teams around us to knock us off the top,” Macken told RadcliffeFCTV. “It’s up to us to keep up the standards and keep winning games.

“We also have to keep putting pressure on other teams and it’s up to them to put pressure on us too. Our aim is to keep winning, going into every game – every week – doing our homework, have a game plan and stick to it.

“The feeling is one of confidence and we should be celebrating because it doesn’t matter who you are playing, we want to win every single game and dressing room celebrations show what we are about.”

The Boro moved to the summit of the division with a 2-0 win over Kendal Town on Tuesday night, and overtook promotion rivals Atherton Collieries by a point.

Macken was impressed by the performance of Prince Haywood especially, as he heaped the superlatives on him and his side the team display, despite only a three-day break.

He said: “(Prince Haywood) He was tremendous again. I thought his effort and work rate over the last couple of games and couple of weeks has been second-to-none. He has really shone, and he is working hard for the team, in which he does a lot of selfless work.

“He is working and doing a lot for the side and he is getting his rewards because everyone is highlighting how well he is performing at the moment and the boys are always congratulating him. He is in the middle of everything – breaking play up, starting play, starting passages of play – so once again, I thought he was outstanding but the entire defence was great today.

“Once again, I think you could tell there was a lot of tired legs out there. Sometimes it’s not the physical effects, they are mental. I think we did well to get the job done and all credit to them. They stuck to the task in-hand and they got the goals and we won the game.”
