Scott Metcalfe gets his first boro goal & Ben Wharton his 18th of the season as the promotion challengers win their first game in five.

BY DANIEL PRYER

10-man Radcliffe earned their first win in five games with a 2-0 victory against Droylsden at the Butcher’s Arms Ground in the Evo-Stik West.
Macken's side's first clear chance was through Scott Metcalfe on 15 minutes. A quick corner from Owolabi with the goalkeeper running back to his goal saw the midfielder try his luck with a left-foot drive, and it was only a whisker over.

The home side's Captain Mike Brewster unleashed a powerful left-footed attempted from 25-yards as he tried to ask questions of Ollie Martin, but the Boro man palmed over.
After a run of poor form over the past couple of weeks, things got worse for Boro, as Liam Caddick was brought down by Kingsley Williams, who stopped the winger through on goal and received a red card on 23 minutes.

The away side then took the lead on 37 minutes. The ball fell to midfielder Metcalfe inside the 18-yard box, which teed up nicely for the Boro captain to strike powerfully into the bottom corner.
Boro doubled their lead seven minutes later. Elliot Rokka received the ball on the half-way line before sending through Prince Heywood down the right, who then squared it across the face of goal for Wharton to finish first time.

13 minutes into the second-half, and Boro missed two chances to put the game to bed. Wharton, three minutes before missed a gaping goal from 12-yards, then latterly powered a half-volley over the bar from the same distance.
Another chance went begging for Macken's side, 64 minutes in. This time, a beautifully timed cross from Metcalfe met the head of Callum Grogan, who diverted the ball against the crossbar.

Droylsden striker Sefton Gonzales has had a habit of scoring in the past against Boro, and had the chance to pull one back on 72 minutes, but hesitated when one-on-one with Martin, causing the Boro number one to smother the ball.
Boro saw the game out professionally with resolute defending, giving Macken’s outfit their first win after a poor run of five games.
