Radcliffe FC missed out on the opportunity to claim a play-off spot as they we’re narrowly beat 1-0 to Colne.
Alex Curren netted the only goal of the game part way through the first half.
The Boro grew into the second half but it wasn’t to be on the night. They still sit second, four points behind Atherton Collieries.
It was the home side who started the better of the pair. Alex Curren hit wide from outside the box with three minutes on the clock.
Brad Knox was next to fire over from range for the home side but it didn’t trouble Ollie Martin in the Boro goal.
Two minutes later it was the Boro’s turn to knock on the door. Lee Neville played a brilliant ball across the six-yard box but no-one was there to meet it.
Just three minutes later, Curren netted for Colne. His strike went low into the far corner of Ollie Martin’s goal.
Craig Lindfield had the best chance just before half time for the Boro. His flicked header went narrowly wide of the Colne goal.
Jon Macken’s side looked the better of the two during the second period.
The best chance fell to Scott Metcalfe, his two free-kicks had Hakan Burton scrambling.
Colne defended resolutely throughout to keep their slender lead intact. It wasn’t to be for Macken’s men despite a second half full of promising chances, it was only the third time this season than his side have failed to score.
The Boro missed out on a chance to secure a play-off spot and now face a long trip away to Colwyn Bay.
