The Boro crash out of the Integro Cup after a below par performance

Radcliffe FC crashed out of the Integro League Cup after a below par performance saw Marine put three past them.

Former Boro man Craig Lindfield, George Hassell and George Newell got their names on the scoresheet as they march onto the next round.

The Boro now look forward to the long trip to South Shields as they return to league action.

It was a lively start at Rossett Park as both sides look for the early opening. It was the home side who broke the deadlock early on.

Craig Lindfield played a brilliant ball to the back post which was dispatched by George Hassell as he gave the home side the lead on six minutes.

Marine continued to pressure Jon Macken’s men as they went in search of a second. Ollie Martin rushed off his line to clear with his head leaving an open goal to aim at but Rick Smith got back in time to clear the rebound.

On 24 minutes Scott Metcalfe forced the goalkeeper into a save. The Boro broke forward after a Marine free kick, it eventually fell to Metcalfe but his shot was well watched by the man in between the sticks.

The final chance of the first half fell to Marine. A brilliant cross found the head of the forward but his header flew over the bar.

Just two minutes into the second half the Br had another chance to get back into the game. This time former Marine man Danny Mitchley broke clear of the defence but his shot went wide of the mark.

On 53 minutes a penalty was awarded to the home side. A lash in the box between two players saw the referee point to the spot.

Lindfield stepped up and sent Martin the wrong way to double his sides lead.

The Boro went in search of a goal shortly after. A succession of corners gave them their best chance but Tyrell Warren’s head went narrowly over the bar.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Callum Grogan took matters into his own hands. He danced through a few players and fired a shot towards goal but it was well watched by the goalkeeper.

Moments later the home side netted their third. A long ball forward cause problems between the defence and goalkeeper leaving George Newell an open goal to tap into.

The home side manged to keep their three-goal advantage as they now look forward to the next round of the cup.
